Nouvelle Ville de Boughezoul
Released in 2013, the international competition of architecture and urban design for the new town of Boughezoul, in Algeria, intended to establish the concept for the development of units 1 and 2 of the city´s general Master Plan. The project included the definition of the urban design layout and also the architectural design for different public facilities and residential typologies. The concept presented had for main concern the sustainability and rationality of the solutions, aiming on the one hand for durability and adaptation to the local context, but also for feasible execution and maintenance. In this sense, the different public buildings were designed sharing the same constructive solutions, as well as similarities in terms of image and finishes. For the residential component, the proposal sought to counteract the strong density foreseen by the General Master Plan, with the introduction of ample green spaces interspersing the collective housing buildings and ensuring their interconnection with surrounding public spaces.
