Namibe Regional Development Plan
Located in the Southwest of Angola, the province of Namibe occupies a considerable extension of the Angolan coast, between the province of Benguela and the northern border of Namibia.
The province’s communications network has as structural elements the Port of Namibe, the third largest port in Angola, the National Road 180, which connects to Huíla, and the Moçamedes Railway, which connects to the cities of Lubango (Huíla) and Menongue (Cuando Cubango) and is planned to expand to Namibia.
The objective of the Namibe Province Development Plan was to define strategies to combat the peripheral situation of the province, investing in the diversification of economic activities and in the strengthening of reference sectors, namely fishing and transformation activities, the reinforcement of port activity in the city of Namibe and the tourism sector based on recreational and bathing activities linked to the sea, and nature tourism linked to the Iona National Park and the Namibe Desert.
